Fried Apple Spice Cake Sticks

Ingredients:

 Pinch of salt
 1/2 cup buttermilk
 1 large egg
 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 1 cup finely chopped apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
 Vegetable oil, for frying

For serving:
 Powdered sugar, for dusting
 Caramel sauce, for dipping
